Florin Joseph Amrhein, the son of John and Catherine Amrhein, was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 3, 1892. He attended Dudley Elementary School in the Highlands section of Boston and received his secondary education at the Boston Public Latin School. He received the degree of Ph.G. in 1915 and the degree of Ph.C. in 1918 from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Past Grand Regent Florin was a 1913 initiate of the Mu Chapter. He joined the faculty of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1921. On November 24, 1920, Professor Amrhein married Elizabeth McCarty, M.D., graduate of the Boston University Medical School, member of Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority, and at the time Bacteriologist at the Long Island Hospital. Professor and Dr. Amrhein had one child, Florin, Jr. Brother Amrhein served as Grand Vice Regent from 1925 until 1932. He was elected Grand Regent on December 29, 1931, assuming the duties of the office on August 24,1932. He remained in office until his death, due to a brain tumor, on March 30, 1934 at the young age of 41.
