Convention Program

Convention Summary

The 43rd Grand Council Convention was presided over by Dr. Patrick Wells. The Keynote Address was delivered at the First General Session by Florida representative, Alzo Reddick, on the benefits of involvement and commitment. This was followed by a pool side reception hosted by Delta Iota Chapter. As expected, the dress of the evening quickly became the "wet" look.

Monday morning's program was devoted to committee and officer reports. The afternoon session included three workshops. The history workshop featured two silent films of the 1947 and 1949 Grand Council Conventions, taken by the late Brother Stephen Zuty of Nu Chapter. These were followed by a Grand Council Deputy Reception and Workshop and the Graduate Brothers Reception. The Legislative Committee Hearing was the place where most brothers discussed the ideas of a dues increase, province realignment and increasing the size of the Executive Committee.

Tuesday brought a moment of silence as the Grand Ritualist performed the Grand Agora Ceremony honoring our departed brothers. The winners of the Scholarship Tray award and the Grand Council Scholarship Key award were announced. Other activities included additional reports and two workshops. The afternoon was free for the brothes to enjoy the surrounding sights and activities. The evening concluded with a reception sponsored by Gamma Sigma Chapter.

Wednesday was spent by a majority of the brothers at Disney World and Epcot Center. Some of the brothers ventured to Daytona Beach and Cape Kennedy. J. J. Whispers Disco was the site for the "Kappa Psi Night on the Town."

Thursday marked the last day of the convention and was devoted to legislative considerations, resolutions and the election of international officers. The Fraternity also adopted an alcohol and substance abuse policy at this session.

The convention concluded with the 108th Anniversary and Awards Banquet. We had in attendance Brother Licamelli, a Connecticut Graduate member who was the oldest in attendance.
